Volunteer

Volunteers are essential to the success of Habitat for Humanity. Whether your donation is in the form of time, money or materials, we greatly appreciate your partnership with us. Together we aim to eliminate poverty housing in Yellowstone County.

More than 2,000 volunteer hours are worked each year at Habitat for Humanity Mid-Yellowstone Valley. Habitat is a volunteer-driven organization operated by a Board of Directors, standing committees, an Executive Director, a Construction Supervisor, a part-time Volunteer Coordinator, a Development Director, a ReStore Manager, part-time ReStore Operations Manager, and an Executive Assistant.

No prior experience required to volunteer, just interest and enthusiasm. In addition to construction work, there are various committees that need volunteers, plus there is always work to be done in the office and at the ReStore. Put your talents to work at Habitat. View the list of volunteer opportunities that are available to the right and then print, complete, and mail our volunteer form to:

B.A.S.H.H. Committee

Building A Stronger Habitat for Humanity (B.A.S.H.H.) is our annual gala fundraiser, which includes a social hour and hors d'oeuvres, dinner, silent and live auctions, live music, and an exciting reverse raffle. A great number of enthusiastic volunteers are necessary to contribute time and creativity in designing and executing a fun evening of raising funds to support our building projects. Planning everything from the decorations and menu, to gathering exciting and unique items for the auctions, producing publicity pieces and working with the media and the public to promote the event, are all vital pieces of this great puzzle that fall together for one magical evening each spring. Please contact our Development Director, Bob Grover, to learn more about volunteering for the B.A.S.H.H.

Golf Tournament Committee

Our annual golf tournament is a fun way to enjoy a day of fresh air and friendly competition while winning prizes and raising dollars for simple, decent housing in the Yellowstone Valley. Preparation for the tournament depends upon the time and talents contributed by volunteers. Even if you are not a golfer yourself, if you know some avid golfers who would like to enter a team, or some local businesses that would be interested in sponsoring the event or donating prizes, you would be a valuable member of this committee! Other volunteer opportunities include working out arrangements with the golf course or the caterer, and manning the registration table and refreshment areas during the tournament. Please contact our Development Director, Bob Grover, to learn more about volunteering for the Golf Committee.

They provide families with a support system by offering education and training to help equip them with the necessary skills to be successful homeowners and neighbors. Involves a commitment of 1-2 years and requires volunteers with great communication skills and a sensitivity to the needs of the Habitat families.

(Meets third Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at the Habitat Office, 201 N. 15th Street)

(Meets last Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Habitat Office, 201 N 15th Street)

ReStore Volunteers

ReStores are a Habitat for Humanity concept, with over 600 stores in North America. The store is a building materials re-sale store that raises money to help cover our operating expenses and help fund home construction. Used and new building materials donated from individuals and businesses are sold at a fraction of the "new" price. The store helps others fix up their houses at a price that is affordable. ReStores also keep tons of items out of the landfill! Volunteers are needed as sorters/cleaners/pricers, cashiers (age 18 and up), and sales assistants. Would like volunteers who are interested in and capable of working with the public. Retail experience not necessary. Ability to do light and/or heavy lifting would be beneficial. Opportunity for helping at times during the week to pick-up donations is also available. Times for pick-ups to be determined. (Store hours are Monday-Friday 10 am-6 pm, Saturdays 10 am-3 pm. Volunteers are needed in shifts throughout the day.)

Office Volunteers

Volunteers work in the office answering the telephone and making phone calls, greeting visitors, copying and filing. Some volunteers may do data entry on a computer. Office volunteers are often the first contact potential donors, volunteers and families have with Habitat. (Weekdays, flexible shifts)
